The Underwriter I is responsible for underwriting group dental and vision insurance cases by using strong subject matter knowledge about company products and underwriting principles. This position works independently and influences others to achieve operational targets. What you do * Analyze and evaluate risk for insurance cases considering characteristics such as plan design, demographics, experience, financial or medical factors, and state and federal regulations. * Select and maintain cases to achieve revenue, persistency, and profitability goals for top and bottom line growth. Communicate financial and other factors to field partners. * Design and coordinate issuance of plans, policies or premium rates within established departmental guidelines. Identify problems and provide solutions and alternatives. * Demonstrate a strong understanding of various insurance products, their features and limitations, and industry/regulatory terms. * Provide training and guidance to new or entry level associates. What you bring * Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar relevant degrees preferred. * 2 years related experience required, preferably in Underwriting * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. * Must be detail-oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills * Strong written and verbal communication skills are required * Demonstrated experience in providing internal and external customer service with commitment to meeting deadlines. * Strong sense of urgency to deadlines established by the department, new business RFP requirements, contract renewal dates and/or state laws. * Ability to make effective decisions based on solid understanding of all financial risk implications * Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a team environment What we offer * Our company motto is “Fulfilling Life” and we take that job seriously, with a heavy commitment to volunteering and community support, employee well-being, and providing quality products and services that help our customers create a brighter future. * Being a mutual-based organization, the return on our investment goes back into the company, to benefit our members/customers. * We’re committed to professional development, opportunity, inclusion and diversity.
