Position: Unit Secretary 
Department: Cardiovascular ICU
Location: St. Vincent’s East – Trussville, AL
Shift: Saturday and Sunday 9am-9pm 

St. Vincent’s East is a 362-bed hospital, located just 15 minutes from downtown. Situated between Irondale and Trussville, AL.  It is the second largest Ascension hospital in the Birmingham area. Our Cardiovascular ICU is a private 8- bed unit that specializes in cardiac care for patients who have had Cardiothoracic Surgery.

What You Will Do:

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and performs other general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointment and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings/schedules meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required.
