Position: Unit Secretary 

Department: 5W Cardiovascular Step Down

Location: Birmingham, Alabama 

Shift: PRN Nights, 36 hours required per six-week schedule. 7pm - 7am, to include 1 weekend shift every 6 weeks. One Summer and One Winter Holiday Required 

 

5West, Cardiac Step-Down is a private 32 bed unit that specializes in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery.  You will also see general medical surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis/history.

What You Will Do:

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and performs other general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointment and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings/schedules meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required.
