Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Technical Cyber Intelligence Leader is responsible for leading the Cyber Intelligence program’s technical threat analysis team. The Team provides insights and control recommendations to key customers across Cyber Operations, Information Security, and additional business lines. The Leader is responsible for implementation of technical threat intelligence collection and analysis strategies and for prioritization and execution of day-to-day activities occurring within the Team. The Technical intelligence function provides deep technical threat insights supporting threat detection, control validation, and threat hunting operations and strategies, and consults on longer-term technical initiatives requiring consideration of potential technical threats and corresponding mitigations/controls. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical understanding of cyber intelligence tradecraft and cyber detection and incident response and have extensive intelligence briefing experience to all levels including executives, alongside demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Set long-term and day-to-day organizational strategies and operational rhythms to effectively support customer technical intelligence needs.

  • Engage and partner with leaders internal to Information Security and Technology, and across the business to identify enduring and tactical needs that the technical intelligence team can support

  • Supervise and set standards for technical threat intelligence analysis and production in both written, briefed and other formats appropriate for intended customers. Serve as the senior analyst and editor for the team, with ultimate responsibility for the quality of intelligence analysis

  • Establish and maintain workflows to identify and prioritize technical threats, using industry best practices and frameworks

  • Perform analysis of emerging threats, to include use of a laboratory environment and breach-and-attack simulation tool, to inform requirements related to selection and deployment of vendor-provided and in-house developed security content as well as design of Cyber Hunts

  • Serve as the focal point for cross-sector technical intelligence engagements and engagements with clients and suppliers on technical intelligence threat-related topics

  • Prioritize mentoring, leadership, and administrative management of assigned personnel to include goal setting, feedback, and performance evaluation

  • Support budgeting responsibilities for Cyber Intelligence suppliers, to include participation in annual evaluations of the effectiveness and value of existing suppliers

  • Establish and maintain recurring program metrics demonstrating program effectiveness, capacity, and control

  • Assist in maintenance and revision of procedures and controls ensuring the effectiveness and quality of Synchrony’s implementation of the intelligence lifecycle

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical degree and minimum 5 years of relevant Cyber Intelligence or Information Security experience

  • Prior experience in a Cyber Detection capacity demonstrating experience with the security content deployment and tools

  • Demonstrated experience creating effective presentations for senior leaders and presenting to leaders

Desired Characteristics:

  • One or more relevant security certifications (CISSP, SANS GIAC, GPEN, GCIA, etc.)

  • Hands on experience with detection content creation and alert tuning in SIEM, UEBA, NGAV/EDR and IDS/IPS platforms.

  • Experience with security laboratory environments and breach and attack simulation tools

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Strong analytical & critical thinking

  • Strong Interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Excellent consulting skills and superior ability to develop and maintain effective client relationships

  • Proven experience with Agile methodologies

  • Superior analytical, organization, coaching and interpersonal skills combined with effective leadership, decision-making and communication

Grade/Level: 12

The salary range for this position is 85,000.00 - 170,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
