Job Description

We are a well-established small animal hospital located in the heart of Alameda, CA. We are looking for a veterinary kennel assistant to join our team on a part-time basis. This individual should enjoy various personalities of animals and feel confident in handling them.

In addition to walking, feeding, and medicating our boarding animals, this individual will be trained to assist our veterinary team in rooming clients. The candidate will need to be comfortable handling and restraining animals for the doctor when checking in for exams, and will be responsible for keeping the doctors on time while assisting with the flow of the appointments.

Because of COVID, we are doing a mix of in-person and curbside visits. For curbside visits, the candidate will act as a “runner”: going outside to greet the clients, acquiring a history on the patient, and carefully and effectively bringing the animal into the hospital. Other tasks would involve weighing the animals, reiterating the history to the attending veterinarian, and assisting the veterinarian during their exam. Interacting with clients is a large part of this job, so a friendly disposition is important.

Because our hospital strongly believes in cross-training our staff, this job candidate will also be trained to assist with reception/CSR duties (answering the phones and scheduling appointments).

We have staff with many years of experience, and this position would be perfect for an individual interested in gaining knowledge for a future in the animal industry. Our staff is happy to teach and assist, provided the applicant shows a willingness to learn.

Hourly pay is based on experience level: $15.75-17/hour.
