PRIMARY PURPOSE

Completes quality reviews and/or audits of all coders to ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical and financial information reported for billing.


MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education:
-Prefer completion of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) degree program.

Experience:
-Must have five years of experience in a hospital inpatient or outpatient coding environment to include two years completing quality reviews and/or audits and successful completion of a coding program.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience
-May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for the experience requirements.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:
-Must be certified as one of the following:
-Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT)
-Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA)
-Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
-Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P),
-Certified Professional Coder ¿Hospital (CPC-H)
-Certified Professional Coder (CPC).

Skills or Special Abilities:
-Applicants must pass applicable coding test with an 85% or above prior to placement into position. Current Parkland employees requesting reassignment into role must have applicable coding test on file.
-Must demonstrate time management, organizational, oral communication, and written communication skills.
-Must be proficient and demonstrate an advanced knowledge in ICD-9-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding and abstracting.
-Must have an advanced clinical knowledge of medical terminology, disease process and pharmacology.
-Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of reimbursement (Medicare and Medicaid) principles and methodologies (DRG and APC) and must have a working knowledge of the compliance guidelines related to coding and billing.
-Must demonstrate computer skills including database management software knowledge.
