Assurant has an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Analyst!

This position performs accounting duties to provide accurate and timely financial information to enable senior and product line management to make appropriate business decisions and achieve departmental goals. This position will also review the work of others on a monthly basis. This position will have contact with senior and product line management which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close

  • Supports budget and forecasting activities

  • Prepares/Reviews all manual JVs and reconciliations for the Agency

  • Prepares/Reviews all the manual JVs and reconciliations for the shipping insurance entity

  • Works with the business to compile the Agency cashflow summary

  • Reviews the Agency financials and works with the business to determine if amounts align with expectations and what JVs are required

  • Prepares the quarterly earn-out memo

  • Prepares accounting memos based on GAAP and Statutory accounting guidance (where appliable) on quarterly issues as needed

  • Prepares the annual intangible memo (done quarterly if there is a triggering event) – updating cashflow models as needed

  • Prepares the quarterly equity rollforward

  • Assists the FR team with the review of Balance Sheet trends relative to the Income Statement movement to ensure they align with expectations

  • Researches guidance on accounting issues and provides a summary of this findings to the AVP and the Segment Controller

  • Work with the AVP to ensure accurate and timely quarterly and year-end audits

  • Support the AVP with special projects and workflow process improvements

  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles in accordance with pertinent accounting guidance and state and federal regulation

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

  • Stays abreast of developments in the field(s)of Insurance, GAAP accounting, company accounting policies, and compliance issues by pursuing a program of self-development

  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment

  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential

Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required

  • Five to seven years of experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups, etc.

  • Able to work independently

  • Able to adapt to a flexible work environment
