Definition of Class

This position provides entry-level administrative support such as maintenance of databases, composition of basic correspondence, assistance with organizational tasks, and support duties for assigned programs. The incumbent is assigned responsibilities targeted at areas that provide experience in a particular region of concentration, and generally involve a mixture of administrative and support duties.


The Ole Miss Athletics Event Management Department seeks one candidate interested in gaining experience in event management and operations. This is a paid full-time, one-year internship. Weekend, evening, and holiday hours will be required depending on event schedules. This internship position is responsible for assisting the Assistant Athletic Director of Event Management and Event Operations Managers with all aspects related to day-to-day and gameday management of all 16 University of Mississippi Athletic Varsity Sports.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Serves as Event Manager for 2 of the following sports: Rifle, Soccer, Softball and Men's and Women's Tennis.
  • Assists the Assistant Athletic Director of Event Management and Event Operations Managers in operating day-to-day and gameday management of assigned athletic events.
  • Serves as Assistant Event Manager for Men's and Women's Basketball.
  • Maintains strong client relationships and ensure that event specifications are communicated and executed.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training and managing student gameday staff.
  • Prepares and implements venue policies and procedures.
  • Manages staff members on a gameday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Works closely and develops relationships with multiple departments throughout Athletics, including University of Mississippi department, Whelan Event Services, local law enforcement, EMS and other emergency personnel.
  • Cooperates with the University of Mississippi Athletic Department Compliance Office regarding the NCAA rules and policies, including reporting requirement, and make a determined effort to ensure that staff and teams are in compliance.
  • Has the opportunity to gain experience with hosting both conference and NCAA Championships
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, conferred no later than the date of hire.


Licensure:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
