Position Summary:

The Justrite Safety Group EHS Director guides and manages the overall function of the Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS). Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer with dotted line responsibilities to the Chief Operating Officer, the EHS Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of the EHS Department and its staff. The EHS Director will partner with our employees, operations leadership, and outside entities to create a best-in-class safety program. Functions include directing the overall safety program, environmental compliance, safety training programs, workers compensation and employee injury management. The Director also implements EHS strategies by establishing department accountability including 3rd party compliance management, and environmental training programs. The individual will lead a team of EHS professionals (6 direct and 3 indirect) in our operations covering over 20 sites worldwide.

  • Coach and advise safety, human resources, and operations leaders to create a world class safety program
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution or corrective action in employee safety concerns
  • Manage outside 3rd party compliance and safety training companies
  • Accountable for establishing a Safety culture and implementation of key Continuous Improvement tools (safety committees, Gemba Walks, job safety analysis (JSA), job hazard analysis (JHA), Kaizen bursts, safety orientations, etc.).
  • Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting safety problems. Review incident reports using these systems to help determine what corrective actions need taken to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Develop general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, State, and Federal agencies including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other regulatory bodies
  • Establish target areas and long-range incident/accident prevention and cost control objectives including working to reduce worker’s compensations costs
  • Responsible for the oversight of EHS management system
  • Manage multiple high priority projects simultaneously
  • Prepare and present management level recommendations and corrective actions to improve the safety program
  • Prepare and present training programs on multiple subjects
  • Communicate effectively to all organizational levels verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ensure the appropriate Emergency Equipment is made available: CPR kits, AED’s, eyewash, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, industrial technology, or related field preferred
  • 10 or more years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred.
  • Ability to write and update safety procedures
  • Leadership, coaching, and team management skills required
  • Ability to influence the organization to make changes in company policy or practices
  • Strong Communications skills
  • Manage within a matrix environment
  • Problem Solving: ability to identify complex issues and resolve them
  • Computer skills: advanced user in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Organization: ability to manage multiple tasks, cases, and projects while prioritizing each item
  • Confidentiality: ability to manage associate questions or Workers’ Compensation situations with the required confidentiality, following HIPPA guidelines
  • OSHA Knowledge: Familiarity with general requirements, with the ability to research regulations and maintain knowledge of changing requirements
  • 10-20% Travel as needed
