The Director of System Layout and Structural Engineering relentlessly and successfully drives new product development from proof of concept to mass installation for our structural system within our warehouse solution. You have the mindset that anything is possible and possess the willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed.

As a leader in the Hardware Product Engineering group, you will work in close partnership with our Project Engineering, Quality, and Strategic Partner teams to ensure flawless design development of our warehouse structural systems and system integration.

In This Role

• Work in close partnership with our strategic partner teams to ensure flawless design and execution
• A process champion to drive the execution of the right system layouts with thoughtful adaptations as needed to facilitate effective execution.
• A 'champion' of the structural design - Lead and partner with cross functional peers to drive specification, efficiencies, and accountabilities.
• Lead the invention of novel, elegant, reliable solutions to highly integrated hardware systems
• Lead the conception, analysis, prototyping, detailed design and validation of new structural design concepts and how they integrate within the larger Symbotic ecosystem
• Provide hands on technical expertise from concept development through to production sign-off, identifying, prioritizing and driving solutions to problems quickly and efficiently.
• Build, retain, and manage an exceptional team - Provide training and mentorship to less experienced designers and engineers.
• Be an enterprise-level problem solver having a can-do, outcome-oriented mindset (that the impossible can be achieved)
• Be relentless, resourceful, and entrepreneurial (constantly look for ways to do things better)
• Be nimble and flexible; adapt quickly to changing circumstances or new insights

• Clearly articulate design challenges and solutions to a multidisciplinary team and executive level
• Set priorities and keep momentum going on a mix of projects. Respond quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goals

What You'll Need

• BS in, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline
• 10+ years of related experience
• 3+ years in a leadership position
• Experience in structural design, particularly for warehouse storage
• Understanding and Experience in BIM layout
• Experience in designing and analyzing parts to be fabricated from hot rolled steel (structural) and light gauge cold formed steel (roll formed)
• Proficiency in Solidworks and RevIT
• Professional Engineering Certification is a plus
• Willingness to fail quickly and fail often to succeed sooner when exploring solutions
• Team player
• Open to pursuing multiple paths to get to the best solution and not being too proud of your own ideas to listen to others
• Great communication and presentation skills.
• Experience allocating resources to work on multiple projects and setting clear priorities when juggling priority projects
• Experience working with contract manufacturing partners
• Respect and understanding of other disciplines; including Controls, Software, Design Engineering, Systems, Electronics, Quality and Manufacturing
