Job Description
Large specialty practice seeks an Infusion Float Nurse RN for their DC office, five days a week, normal schedule.
JOB TITLE: Infusion Nurse
DUTIES:
The infusion nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluatingpatient’s course of infusion therapy. The infusion nurse is also expected to administer intravenous research medications and injectables.
STYPICAL WORKING DEMANDS:
Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Involves standing and walking. Requires exposure to bodily fluids. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 100 pounds.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to bio-hazardous materials; medicinal preparations. Fast-paced, busy medical office.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (List may not include all of the duties assigned.)

Reviews patient charts to ensure that physician’s orders are in the chart and up-
to-date prior to escorting patient to infusion suite.

Prepares patient for infusion of medication. Obtains brief medical histories,
checks vital signs, and reviews patient’s list of medications.

Provides infusion therapy in a safe and competent manner.
-
Monitors patient and promptly reports changes in the patient’s condition or
emergencies.

Initiates peripheral intravenous catheter insertion(s), administers injection(s), and
performs phlebotomy as needed.

Provides educational information to patient and patient’s family regarding biologic
drugs. Instructs patient about biologic drugs, how they work and their side
effects.

Maintains current medical history on patients.

Schedulespatientsforinfusiontherapyandofficevisits.

Remains current with the policies mandated by both Federal and local
governments, Medicare/Medicaid programs, and other private health care
programs regarding handling of laboratory work.
10. Performs related work as required.
INFUSION NURSE PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Knowledge of indications of therapy, pharmacologic actions, interactions, side effects and monitoring of parameters. Understanding of drug calculations.

Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work
environment.

Knowledge of Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice by Infusion Nurses Society
(INS) and adheres to the Standards of Practice.

Skilled in site selection for placement of peripheral intravenous catheters.
-
Skilled in obtaining vital signs.
-
Skilled in maintaining clear and concise notes in the patient’s electronic medical
record (EMR).
-
Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with
patients, other staff members, and the public.
-
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
10. Ability to adapt to changes in the department.
11. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
12. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and thoroughness.
13. Participate in the development and following of policies and procedures related
to infusion therapy.

laboratory specimens including, but not limited to, collection, temperature,
containers, and proper disposal of biohazard materials.

Identifies, reports and/or prevents any fraudulent or unethical behavior.

The responsibility associated with this position requires the access to the computer “role” of Check In/Out.
We are committed to enforcing minimum necessary access to our patient’s PHI by limiting the uses and disclosures of this information within our practice. The employee needs access to the aforementioned computer “role” in order to carry out his/her job in a manner that best serves our patients. Role descriptions are explicitly defined in our HIPAA manual. Access to computer information is password protected. Upon termination of an employee, his/her password will be deleted in the system.
EDUCATION:
Registered Nurse degree from a nationally accredit nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred.
HOURS:
One can choose to work 4 or 5 days a week (Monday through Friday). Start time 7:45 or 8am.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
1. BLS Certification
2. ACLS Certification, preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 years direct patient care in a critical care clinical setting. IV catheter insertion competency and some infusion therapy experience preferred.
