Job Description

About Mynd:

Mynd is a tech-enabled real estate company serving an $85B+ property management and $1.5 trillion single-family rental asset class. Forbes referred to Mynd as "A revolutionary, institutional-grade platform that enables anyone to buy, manage or sell SFR properties across the U.S." In the past few years, financial services disruptors like E-Trade, Schwab, and Robinhood have unlocked access to the stock market, minting a new generation of self-service investors. Yet we at Mynd believe that real estate remains the most powerful tool for building generational wealth.

We’re on a mission to create happy homes and healthy investments by offering best-in-class property management services and making single-family rentals as accessible and effortless as other types of investments. Investing in real estate can be intimidating, especially for first-time buyers. Plus, many potential investors don’t want to invest in real estate in their geographic area or have been priced out of competitive big-city housing markets. Through localized operations in 25 markets across the US, and real-time insights via our platform, we remove the time, communication, and geographic barriers traditionally associated with real estate. Investors can now find, purchase, rent, manage and sell single-family rental properties 100% remotely.

Mynd was named the #1 fastest-growing private company in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times in 2020. We’ve attracted talent from Starwood Waypoint Homes, McKinsey, Shift, Better, BCG, One Medical, Zillow, Upwork, and Facebook. We’re backed by top VCs, including Lightspeed, Canaan, Jackson Square, and QED, and recently announced a $5 billion commitment from Invesco Real Estate that will make us the largest buyer of single-family rental homes in the country. Most importantly, we’re a kind and fun team of innovators who truly enjoy ushering in a new generation of real estate investors and improving the availability and quality of single-family rentals for residents.

About the Role:

Mynd is looking for a Lead Economist to develop and deliver research to support our clients' investment decisions and publications to strengthen Mynd's reputation as a thought leader in the single-family rental investment market

The role will report to the VP of Growth but work closely with our Marketing, Product, Data, Asset/Relationship Management teams to drive a core pillar of Mynd’s growth strategy.

  • Research and distill insights on relevant economic issues such as supply and demand for SFR investments and surface opportunities for innovation given market trends that can differentiate Mynd (for example, partner with our Head of Capital Markets to ideate investor-facing services that can leverage the market observed trends)
  • Interact with high-value customers directly to get feedback and support them with their long term objectives (eg “invite-only” investment webinars, private consultations on investment thesis)
  • Collaborate with the Marketing (Product Marketing, Editorial, and PR) to articulate the best way to position Mynd as a thought leader and aid in building brand awareness and driving traffic through publishing proprietary, data-driven reports

Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related discipline
  • 10 years experience as an economist, with a focus on real estate, investments, and finance
  • Industry experience in real estate or investment management is highly appreciated

  • Entrepreneurial mindset: you bias for action, seek to make many (different) mistakes, celebrate wins, and are passionate about creating and delivering value
