Primary Purpose

The Magnet Program Manager is responsible for managing the ANCC Magnet program in the Parkland Center for Advancing Professional Practice (PCAPP) department.  This includes advancing nursing excellence and ANCC Magnet standards and philosophy in support of professional practice, nursing research, evidence-based nursing practice, education, and shared leadership.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Must have a master’s degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • A Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is preferred.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of three years of clinical experience
  • Must have two years project management experience.
  • Must have three years of progressive management experience.
  • Research and/or Magnet experience preferred.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or valid Compact RN license.
  • Certification from a professional nursing organization including but not limited to ANCC Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC) preferred.

Responsibilities

  1. Under the leadership and direction of the Director of Professional Practice and Nursing Research, facilitates and supports the Parkland’s Center for Advancing Professional Practice (P-CAPP) initiatives including the identification, development, implementation and monitoring of nursing professional practice and nursing research initiatives.
  2. In collaboration with the Program Manager of Professional Practice, coordinates the integration of the ANCC Magnet standards into the nursing shared governance councils and hospital infrastructure.
  3. Accountable for the planning and coordination of the Magnet journey plan.
  4. Assists with developing and tracking of the annual Magnet budget in collaboration with the Director of Professional Practice and Nursing Research.
  5. Coaches and mentors’ nurses at all levels in their understanding and practical application of Magnet standards.
  6. Coordinates the Magnet application, document, designation, biannual reports, and re-designation process.
  7. Serves as the liaison between nursing and the quality database administrator for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators NDNQI for Magnet indicators and is responsible for disseminating NDNQI information to front line staff.
  8. Assists in coordinating and interpreting NDNQI data for patient outcomes and nurse satisfaction.
  9. Inspires and mentors’ nurses and patient care practices in alignment with the principles of nursing excellence and Magnet standards.
  10. Coordinates projects and tracks nurse engagement in research and EBP.
  11. Communicates changes and progress and completes projects on time and within budget.
  12. Develops and maintains positive working relationship with Parkland management, nursing staff, UTSW faculty and other hospitals and organizations to advance nursing excellence and Magnet standards.
  13. Coordinates Magnet committee meetings, education, communication, and staff engagement plans.
  14. Provide consultation to other divisions and services regarding Magnet standards.
  15. Serve as a resource to external customers regarding Magnet standards and process.
  16. Serve as liaison to the ANCC Magnet Program Office (MPO).

  18. Serves on Parkland’s committees as assigned.

  20. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  21. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
