Job Summary:

The Rotating Engineer - Maintenance provides engineering/technical expertise to the maintenance department and other plant departments as needed to maintain continuous plant operations and high efficiency. This position provides mechanical expertise to the maintenance department in solving problems relating to rotating mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and the preventive maintenance program for routine, shutdown, and project activities. The Rotating Engineer - Maintenance serves as the technical specialist concerning major rotating equipment and participates in planning to achieve group objectives.

Job Description:

1. Assists with the PSM Mechanical Integrity program as it relates to rotating equipment for the Port Neal Nitrogen Complex. Assists in monitoring the Mechanical Integrity documentation required to maintain the plant computerized maintenance management system.

2. Performs technical investigations/audits or independent research in rotating equipment and material failures, documenting the results and making recommendations to resolve issues. Monitors the condition of critical equipment in the plant through the use of continuous and offline vibration monitoring equipment, oil analysis results, process data, temperature, and ultrasonic surveys. Conducts further audits and information gathering as required.

3. Leads in the review of all new rotating and reciprocating equipment prior to purchase and recommends proper selections including spare parts lists. Routinely reviews predictive maintenance analysis of all large rotating machines, keeps up-to-date records of vibration base line data, vibration trends and alignment data and recommends corrective action as required to maintain equipment integrity.

4. Maintains the Bently Nevada System1 data acquisition system.

5. Serves as the mechanical acceptance specialist on newly installed plant rotating equipment to assure proper installation and that the equipment will be mechanically reliable when accepted.

6. Supports reliability technicians with analysis of data gathered during condition monitoring rounds, and issues recommendations based on this information.

7. Develops & updates maintenance procedures for critical tasks related to rotating equipment.

8. Designs Preventive Maintenance Programs for all critical items of machinery and equipment and lubrication programs for all plant machinery. Responsible for the implementation of these programs, monitoring the effectiveness of the program, and making modifications as necessary.

9. Updates and maintains a Lubrication Manual containing lubricant specifications and lubricating instructions for all plant machinery.

10. Prepares and delivers to the Planner work orders relating to approved preventive maintenance programs, together with the related checklists, instruction sheets, and other material defining the work to be done, the frequency of execution and, where pertinent, the sequence of steps to be followed.

11. Performs analyses of pertinent management information reports and equipment histories for the purpose of identifying items of machinery and rotating equipment with high maintenance costs or with lubrication problems and makes recommendations for corrective action. Follows up to see that action is taken.

12. Assists with pre-planning of all planned turnarounds, shutdowns, and special projects including timing, accumulation of job lists, ordering of parts and materials, sequencing of jobs around a critical path, sizing of work crews based on job estimation, and preparation of an overall schedule. During the execution of these projects, monitors and advises the Maintenance Manager daily of the progress of the work.

13. Reviews annually the stock of spare parts carried by Stores and submits recommendations to the Maintenance Manager for approval to adjust the inventory.

14. Promotes the standardization throughout the plant of such widely used items as pumps, valves, instruments, etc., to simplify maintenance work, standardize work methods, reduce Stores inventory, and reduce manufacturing cost.

15. Communicates with production management on problems relating to mechanical failures and offers suggestions.

16. Reviews and assists in the selection of outside contractors, executes negotiation of contracts and evaluates contract performance.

17. Directs the maintenance of the maintenance department technical files on equipment, vendor products library and industrial codes (ASME, ANSI, State).

Position Requirements:

1. Bachelor Degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical engineering.

2. Experience in a plant environment is preferred.

3. Strong knowledge of vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasonics, and condition monitoring required. Certification in these techniques is preferred.

4. Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

5. Communication and presentation skills sufficient to communicate thoughts succinctly to Management

6. Understanding of plant process and equipment used in the manufacture of anhydrous ammonia and urea fertilizers is desired.

7. Specific knowledge of rotating and reciprocating equipment; vibration analyses; fluids product handling; electrical systems; regulatory design codes (pressure vessels, piping codes, building codes); OSHA regulations; manpower coordination.

8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

9. Proficient in basic computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint Excel and Project; Avantis [or other similar computer maintenance management systems (CMMS)] and AutoCAD

10. Knowledge of industrial codes (ASME, ANSI,).
