Primary Purpose

Responsible for the tactical daily management of virtual health activities and programs including staff supervision, strategic development/alignment (development of innovative virtual/digital solutions, planning, coordination of implementation with clinical, IT, training, etc.), and quality of operations to ensure high quality experiences for patients and staff, as well as optimal outcomes.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field.
  • Prefer a master’s degree in a healthcare related field.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of four years healthcare experience.
  • Prefer two years of telehealth/telemedicine, digital health, or virtual care experience.
  • Prefer two years of management experience.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • If a RN, must have a current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have or obtain a certification in Digital Health, Telehealth/Telemedicine, Virtual Care, or approved related certification within 6 months of employment.

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, management, physicians, and external contacts in publishing, professional associations, universities, hospitals.
  • Must have demonstrated expertise in virtual/digital health.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented, capable of working independently and with all levels of leadership, including executive level leadership.
  • Must have an ability to develop and sustain program initiatives and promote the program through public speaking and service with various professional organizations.
  • Must be capable of serving as a resource to assigned staff and well as other internal and external customers to the department.
  • Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
  • Must be capable of leadership and have effective organization skills.
  • Must be competent in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in Excel and Visio.

Responsibilities

  1. Manages the department programs to ensure the highest quality and experience is provided for patients and staff.
  2. Communicates with leadership, staff (physicians, APPs, nurses, IT, etc.) and other department staff to promote integrated, effective care.
  3. Selects, trains, supervises, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff. Serves as a role model and resource. Evaluates staff competencies and delegates tasks effectively. Directs staff meetings, interviews, trains, counsels, and provides other personnel activities to ensure that clinical activities meet department and Parkland Health goals and mission objectives.
  4. Serves as a clinical resource, maintains skills, and promotes staff development. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the specialty area by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and maintaining Texas RN licensure (if applicable). Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Serves as an educational resource for patients, families, and Parkland Health staff.
  5. Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective unit procedures. Develops and evaluates staff activities to promote knowledge of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws, and guidelines, including The Joint Commission, that impact the unit and ensures compliance. Collaborates with Directors, Quality/Risk Management, Compliance, etc. Maintains communication on hospital wide practices through committee participation.
  6. Responsible for a collaborative work team to ensure positive working relationships. Maintains good communication with other hospitals, government/regulatory agencies, and community representatives, when applicable.
  7. Responsible for performance improvement practices. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes/flows, and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland Health.
  8. Develops, implements, and evaluates unit annual goals and personal goals consistent with Parkland Health and department mission and goals.
  9. Provides program design and development.
  10. Implements, monitors, evaluates, and reports on details regarding the education, success, and optimizations for programs to departmental leadership and to appropriate committees, as required.
  11. Serves as a program and community liaison and resource person performing public speaking and education, etc. that support the missions, goals, and objectives of the virtual programs and Parkland Health while establishing and cultivating positive working relationships to maximize interactive cooperative relationships.
  12. Ensures data integrity through review and verification of medical records or appropriate audits based on the program.
  13. Assists with developing, revising, and monitoring annual goals, objectives, and budget, that support the overall missions and objectives of the department and Parkland.
  14. Serves on multidisciplinary and departmental committees as selected and assigned.
  15. Serves on the local/regional/national committees, task forces, special interest groups, and various other committees as requested to serve as an active contributor and participant in achieving education and meeting the PHHS goals.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
  4. Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
  5. Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
  6. Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
