JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Nurse Administrator

DEPARTMENT: Nurse Administration

SUMMARY:

The Administrator is the senior manager of the surgery center. The Registered Nurse Administrator oversees the direction and coordination of all functions of the facility including staffing, marketing, accreditation / inspection standards, capital equipment purchases, and customer safety and satisfaction. The Administrator works closely with the Medical Director and Governing Body to establish facility goals and objectives and monitors their progress. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and maintains a positive public relations image in all customer communications. The Administrator works closely with management team members to promote the philosophy and vision of the Medical Director and The Governing Body. The Administrator is also responsible for keeping the Board of Managers, and Medical Director aware of current and future trends in the marketplace which would impact the clinical and financial performance of the facility.

  1. POSITION DUTIES

  1. Directs, monitors, and evaluates all activities of the center to ensure professional medical care for each patient.
  2. Prepares, controls, and evaluates the operating budget. Monitors financial performance of the facility.
  3. Develop, direct, evaluate, and administer financial, administrative, and personnel policy, procedures, and standards of conduct consistent with the Center’s mission, vision and goals as well as CMS and accrediting body rules and regulations.
  4. Provide direction for and evaluation of all Medical Staff committee activities including, but not limited to, Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control, and delegates responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  5. Oversees and reviews all center purchases. Maintains appropriate inventory levels.
  6. Maintains accurate financial and accounting records.
  7. Evaluates the efficient utilization of all resources.
  8. Manages the collections of accounts receivable for the facility.
  9. Monitors and reviews appropriate scheduling and staffing activities of patients, physicians, and personnel to ensure quality of services and cost effectiveness.
  10. Facilitates communication and supports employee and Medical Staff relationships.
  11. Provides direction for employee training and motivation.
  12. Develops and monitors guidelines and standards to assure compliance with state requirements, Medicare approval, and federal regulations (OSHA, CLIA, etc).
  13. Oversees the activities of recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of personnel.
  14. Under the direction of the Board of Managers, maintains contact with facility attorney, accountant, and other consultants/contractors to assure all center activities are consistent with legal and ethical requirements.
  15. Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and personnel by supervising maintenance services and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
  16. Performs other administrative duties as delegated by the Board of Managers.
  17. Negotiates managed care contracts in conjunction with Medical Director and Board of Managers.
  18. Monitors patient and surgeon satisfaction in conjunction with Medical Director.
  19. Plans, monitors, and reviews all service expansion activities in conjunction with Medical Director.
  20. Represents the center with the general public.
  21. Supervises special financial arrangements for patients including deferred payment and third-party payment plans.
  22. Monitors and advises the Board of Managers and Medical Director of market trends impacting the clinical and financial performance of the facility.
  23. Performs additional administrative duties as designated by the Board of Managers and Medical Director.

  1. Internal: Staff in clinical operations, business office and contract personnel.

  1. External: Physicians, Allied Health Professionals, patients, families, Physicians’ office staff, representatives of medical industry, consultants, legislators, health coalitions, and professional peers.

It is preferred that the Administrator have a bachelor’s degree. A minimum of two years’ experience in ambulatory surgery services preferred and previous experience in hospital/ambulatory supervisor or administrative management position is required. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team; have the ability to analyze reports, determine priorities, and plan strategies; and must possess the ability to handle this challenging and time-consuming position. It is also a requirement for one to have their RN license.
