Primary Purpose
Prepares reports and financial statements, performs analysis of accounting documents and reports, and prepares and posts journal entries to provide accounting expertise for the department.
 

Minimum Specifications
 

Education

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance, with at least eighteen hours of accounting courses.

Experience

  • Must have two years of financial or accounting experience.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • None

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must have good analytical skills and be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in operating a PC and using word processing, spreadsheet and financial data base management software.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the particular mainframe computer system that supports financial, accounting and budget functions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good organizational and interpersonal skills, and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of employees.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares journal entries, enters accounting data into the system, and performs account reconciliations to ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting of financial data.
  2. Prepares a variety of complex financial, accounting, or cost reports, researches records and other data, and performs analysis or reconciliations as required to produce accurate, complete and timely accounting reporting.
  3. Reviews and distributes documents and reports to appropriate parties, noting changes, making appropriate corrections, etc., to ensure accurate reporting.
  4. Acts as consultant to internal and external customers, and maintains a positive working relationship with management, departments, and employees to ensure efficient and timely resolution of accounting problems and related issues.
  5. Assists with the maintenance of hospital and departmental budgets to ensure accurate and timely development and maintenance of budget accounting procedures.
  6. Undertakes and completes special projects as assigned, and makes recommendations to the supervisor based on project results to ensure that appropriate departmental support is provided for accounting functions.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
