Job Description

AHBL is looking for a creative, collaborative, and versatile Urban Planner to join our award-winning planning team in our Western Washington offices (Seattle or Tacoma). We are looking for someone who brings a variety of skills and interests including site and urban design experience. If you agree, you might be perfect for our team!

What You Will Do

Our Urban Planners will work on a variety of current and long-range planning projects for public and private sector clients throughout Washington and the west coast. In this role, you will be performing professional planning services in a team environment. You will enjoy frequent contact with AHBL’s clients including contacts with city, county, and state officials and staff, citizens' groups, and other professionals.

You are a self-motivated individual who is able to work independently, think creatively, and enjoy collaborating in a team environment. You are a professional, skilled in understanding zoning and plan making. You are eager to learn and grow in the profession and you are passionate about providing exceptional client services.

What We Want

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, or an equivalent related field (Master’s degree is preferred).
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of professional planning experience.
  • Experience working on multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques of planning.
  • Understanding of land use controls (e.g., zoning, subdivision, landscape codes)
  • Excellent oral, written, and graphic communication skills and an interest in public engagement.
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) skills.
  • Urban design skills are a plus.
