Leidos is seeking a Digital Journalist to support our customer, the Office of Communications (OCOM) for the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), which is part of the U.S. Department of Justice. The Digital Journalist will support development of digital communication products (i.e., social media posts, website content, video scripts, photo captions, infographic content, data visualization content, blogs, electronic newsletters, op-eds) and to provide editing and other writing services for quick turnaround/ad hoc assignments; organize and schedule content for coordinated release; research story ideas; summarize complex data into plain language for consumption by the general public; and provide other communication support tasks as needed. The Digital Journalist will work closely, on a daily basis, with the OCOM digital media team, OJP communication staff, program and senior staff, and other subject matter experts (e.g., grantee and contract staff).

The Digital Journalist will perform proactive digital storytelling functions for approximately 75% of her/his time, with the other 25% devoted to researching potential stories, coordinating the release of digital products, and other impromptu, ad hoc editing and writing assignments as needed by the agency.

Specific responsibilities/tasks/skills include:

  • Write social media content based on OJP reports, publications, press releases, website content, job postings, open press events, and various other communication products released to the public. Assist the digital media team with the planning, organization, and scheduling of social media content.
  • Assist OCOM staff with researching and writing creative communication products, sometimes on complex and controversial subjects, for dissemination on OJP digital platforms.
  • Assist with organizing and updating the digital media content calendar, commemorative event calendar, and social media scheduling calendar.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience: Five years of directly relevant work experience creating and coordinating for dissemination of written digital communication products. Excellent storytelling and oral/written communication skills required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
  • Location: Some travel may be required, and occasional attendance at OJP onsite meetings may be required. The OCOM Office is located at 810 Seventh St. NW, Washington, DC.
  • Security Clearance: Required. Candidates must have a Public Trust clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $57,850.00 - $89,000.00 - $120,150.00
