SGS Canada is presently looking for a General Inspector for the pipeline - Oil/Gas industry

Role Description -

General inspectors are part of the Construction Management team and, depending on the project, report to the Construction Manager, and when there is no Construction Manager, report to the Project Manager. The General Inspector is the Company’s authorized representative and is to observe the Contractor’s progress and inspect all activities in his/her assigned areas in accordance with Company drawings, plans, specifications and the terms of the construction contract or agreement. The General Inspector will also be asked to assist other certified craft inspectors, as directed. The general inspector is client’s authorized representative, for non-financial matters and observes contractors’ progress and inspects all activities in assigned areas in accordance with:

Inspections

  • Conducting inspection activities in a timely and efficient manner to avoid delays to the construction progress
  • Conducting ongoing inspections to accept or reject contractors’ workmanship and ensuring conformance to client's specifications and contractual obligations
  • Reviewing general activities for technical accuracy and adequacy
  • Inspecting the work performed by contractors in assigned areas of responsibility to ensure client’s policies, procedures, standards and specifications are met
  • Assisting with inspections, under the direction of other certified craft inspectors assigned to the project
  • Conducting inspections on all contractor and client supplied materials and equipment to ensure they meet specifications
Mandatory Training
  • Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers and Supervisors (Ontario only)
  • WHMIS/TDG
  • Valid First Aid / CPR
  • Valid Defensive Driving
  • Contractor Safety Orientation
  • Ground Disturbance Level II
  • Excavation Orientation
Qualifications
  • Carries a degree/diploma/certification as an engineer, technologist or technician in a related field; certification from the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program as a journeyman in a relevant field
  • Preferred experience is 5 years or more of progressive, relevant experience in related general construction activities on pipeline or facility projects, and a minimum of 1 to 2 years of work experience in the oil and gas or construction industry
  • Possesses a working knowledge of the latest CSA Z662, CSA A23.1, CSA A23.2, CSA S16.1
  • NACE CIP Level 1 certification an asset;
  • Strong background in one or more pipeline general Inspector construction activities (e.g. excavation, bending, lowering in, backfill, etc.);
  • Possesses a working knowledge of the latest Provincial environmental codes;
  • Possesses a strong background in the oil, gas and/or petrochemical industries;
  • Strong background in excavation methods in close proximity to buried, energized, loaded mechanical and electrical systems
  • Possesses a strong background in loss prevention programs;
  • Strong background in company design and construction execution methods.
  • Has a positive safety and quality attitude
